Following its missile attacks in Ukraine Monday that left at least 29 dead, Russia’s Defence Ministry has denied allegations by Kyiv that it deliberately targeted civilian infrastructure in the airstrikes.

The Russian Defense Ministry said the allegations were “absolutely untrue.”

Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said Russia shot over 40 missiles, destroying residential and commercial buildings in Kyiv, Kryvyi Rih (Zelenskyy’s home city), Dnipro, and two eastern cities.

However, the Russian Defence Ministry said its forces carried out retaliatory strikes on Ukraine’s defence industry and aviation bases.

In a statement, the defence ministry said,

This morning, in response to attempts by the Kyiv regime to damage Russian energy and economic facilities, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out a group strike with long-range precision weapons against Ukrainian military industry facilities and AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine) air bases.

The objectives of the strike have been achieved. The assigned objects are hit.”

Tomorrow, leaders of NATO countries will begin a three-day summit, with President Zelenskyy expected to attend to discuss the ongoing war.

On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine over the latter’s decision to join NATO – a military alliance of European countries and two North American countries. Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, considers Ukraine’s NATO plan a threat.
