Liberia’s President Slashes His Salary By 40%

Liberia’s president, Joseph Boakai, has slashed his salary by 40 per cent on Saturday. This was announced in a statement released on the Liberian government website.

“The Liberian leader said the move is aimed at setting a precedent for responsible governance and nation-building,” the statement read.

This development came days after lawmakers arrived at parliament in tricycles to protest against the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning’s non-payment of funds for their vehicles.

President Boakai said his salary slashing shows his “determination to lead by example in strengthening government accountability and demonstrating solidarity with the people of the nation.”

He also pledged to empower the Civil Service Agency to ensure that public servants’ salaries are in line with the “current state of the nation” and that workers get fair compensation for their service to the country.
