Building Collapse in Abuja Leaves Three Injured

Three persons were left injured in the collapse of a building on Monday evening in FCT. The incident happened in an ongoing renovation work in a four-bedroom apartment with no casualty.

Three persons were reportedly left injured in a collapsed building on Monday evening in FCT. The incident happened during the ongoing renovation of a four-bedroom apartment.

Reports revealed that rescue operations had commenced, and rescue teams were already at the scene of the incident in Area 11 of the FCT.

According to a situation report made available by the Director of FCT Fire Service, Amiola Adebayo, the three casualties have been moved to the hospital for treatment.

“It’s an old four-storey building undergoing restructuring and renovation. Other workers on the ground confirmed that no one else remained inside the rubble,” the report read.

Rescue efforts, including excavation and evacuation of the debris, paused at 1:30 am and resumed at 7:00 am on July 2, 2024.

The FCT police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, also confirmed the incident.

“In response to the distress call, the Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, promptly moved to the scene with multiple patrol teams as first responders to cordon off the area for possible rescue,” the spokesperson said. “Three victims were, in the process, successfully evacuated from the collapsed building and rushed to the hospital for medical care.”

The National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria and the FCT Development Control have taken over to ensure the site is well managed.
