President Bola Tinubu is set to present the 2024 Supplementary Budget to the National Assembly (NASS), following his earlier assent to the N28.7 trillion 2024 Appropriation Bill on January 1, 2024.

This announcement was made during his address at a joint sitting of the National Assembly, marking the Silver Jubilee of Nigeria’s 4th Republic.

In his speech, President Tinubu expressed gratitude for the Senate’s swift passage of the initial budget.

“I submitted the last budget to you, and you expeditiously passed it. We are walking the talk. I will soon bring the Year 2024 (Supplementary) Appropriation Bill. That is just for your information,” he stated.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio responded by assuring the President of the Senate’s readiness to receive and act on the forthcoming bill.

“Thank you, Mr. President. We will expect the Supplementary Appropriation Bill of 2024 as soon as possible,” Akpabio said.

The President urged the Senate and the House of Representatives to maintain their cooperative efforts to advance the nation’s development. He emphasised the necessity of self-reliance and collective effort.

“We have no other choice; it is our nation. No other institution or personality will help us unless we do it ourselves. No amount of aid from foreign countries or any other nation (will fix us). They take care of themselves first. Let us work together as we are doing to build our nation, not only for us but for generations unborn.”

The 2024 budget, which is N1.2 trillion higher than the president initially proposed in November 2023, reflects an increase in the budget for various sectors.
