Five people have been confirmed dead in a bomb attack in northern Kenya, with no immediate claim of responsibility.

The bomb exploded in El Wak town in Mandera County, near the Somalia border, claiming the lives of five citizens. According to the Interior Ministry,

The bomb was placed on a donkey to avoid detection.

While no claim of responsibility for the attack has been identified, the Somali-based al-Shabab militants affiliated with al-Qaida have carried out similar attacks in the area.

The extremist group had earlier threatened Kenya forces over its yearlong deployment to Somalia to stabilise the region’s old-age conflict.

Amidst the insecurity troubling the northern region, floods remain another humanitarian crisis in eastern Africa, of which Kenya is a victim.

However, following the recent flood that claimed over 45 lives on Monday, the Kenya National Highways Authority issued an alert warning motorists to brace for heavy traffic and debris blocking the road.
