Nigeria's Shippers Council fixes August to begin paperless operations

The Nigerian Shippers Council, NSC, the nation’s port economic regulator, has announced its decision to begin “paperless” operations in maritime and logistics service delivery by August 2024.

In the open ceremony of the 2024 Management Retreat in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Council, Barr. Akutah Pius stated that “paperless” operations have come to stay in the Council.”

According to Akutah, the Shippers Council is determined to significantly contribute to developing and implementing a national policy on the Marine & Blue Economy.

The governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, said the “Shipper’s Council is critical to the development of transport infrastructural projects, including in actualising the aspirations of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.”

Abiodun also noted the need for capacity development for staff to assist in the realisation of the agency’s plans.

The Director of the Strategic Planning & Research Department of the Council, Mr Olurotimi Anifowose gave a presentation titled ” The NSC Strategic Plan: The Journey So Far”.

Anifowose delivered a comparative analysis of the 2023 strategic plan and the strategic plan for 2024.

Meanwhile, the NSC had earlier declared a mandatory online registration for both local and international shippers and importers as it provides ease of transition from manual to automated policy, which in turn would enhance efficiency in port operations.
