The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken legal action against Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, known as Bobrisky.
The anti-graft agency filed a six-count charge before the Federal High Court in Lagos. Bobrisky is scheduled for arraignment on Friday. He faces allegations of money laundering and abuse of the Nigerian currency.
According to the charge sheet EFCC Prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo presented, Bobrisky is accused of various offences, including using funds at social events. As earlier reported, among the charges, the first four counts pertain to instances where Bobrisky is alleged to have sprayed sums of money during public dances, amounting to N400,000, N50,000, N20,000, and another N20,000, respectively, at different locations and dates.
Furthermore, the EFCC accused Bobrisky of failing to declare his company’s financial activities, Bob Express, as the law requires. Between September 1, 2021, and April 4, 2024, significant sums totalling N127.7 million and N53 million were allegedly deposited into the company’s Ecobank account without proper declaration to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering.
Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, known by his social media persona Bobrisky, has garnered widespread attention for his unconventional lifestyle, including his identity as a cross-dresser. Despite controversies surrounding his persona, Bobrisky has a substantial following on platforms like Instagram, where he shares glimpses of his lavish lifestyle, makeup tutorials, and fashion choices.
The legal proceedings against Bobrisky come in the backdrop of a controversy surrounding Bobrisky being presented with the “Best Dressed Female” award at the premiere of Filmmaker Eniola Ajao’s movie, ‘Ajakaju’ recently.
