UK Court to Rule on Julian Assange’s Extradition Case

The United Kingdom Royal Court of Justice is set to rule on the extradition case of WikiLeaks Publisher Julian Assange, who has been locked up in a UK prison for publishing leaked videos of US war crimes in the Middle East.

In the recent announcement, Assange will appear before the court on Tuesday, 26 March 2024. He anticipates a written decision on whether a final UK appeal will be granted.

The ruling is set to be held in London at 10.30 am GMT. However, Amnesty International has released a press statement maintaining that global media freedom is at risk as Assange is back in court facing possible extradition to the USA.

The risk to publishers and investigative journalists around the world hangs in the balance. Should Julian Assange be sent to the US and prosecuted there, global media freedoms will be on trial, too,” said Julia Hall, Amnesty International’s expert on counter-terrorism and criminal justice in Europe.

“The outcome will determine whether Julian Assange will have further opportunities to argue his case before the UK courts or if he will have exhausted all appeals in the UK, leading to the extradition process or an application to the European Court of Human Rights,” says Amnesty International.
