Diphtheria Outbreak Claims Lives of Four Children in Kano State

At least four children have died as a result of a diphtheria outbreak in Minjibir Local Government Area of Kano State reports say. Tasiu Yahaya, the Information Officer of the local government, confirmed this distressing development in a statement released on Thursday in Kano.

Yahaya further revealed that the disease has afflicted an additional 28 children.

“Four children have been confirmed dead while 28 others infected with Diphtheria in Minjibir Local Government of Kano state.

The 28 children contracted the disease in the towns of Kwarkiya, Kuru, Kunya, and Minjibir,” Yahaya said.

He also disclosed that Muhammad Yakubu Kunya, the Interim Management Officer of the local government, has urgently appealed to authorities and stakeholders to swiftly intervene in Minjibir to safeguard the community’s health.

Furthermore, the district head of the local government has implored traditional leaders and scholars to step forward, enlighten the community, and offer prayers for relief from this affliction, as stated in the release.
