Gunmen invaded a mosque in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State on Thursday, during the Isha’i evening prayers killing at least three persons and kidnapping several others.

A credible source in the area told Leadership Newspaper that the bandits opened fire on worshipers during the evening prayer session, leaving four other wounded persons in the attack and an unconfirmed number of persons abducted.

He explained that the gunmen moved into the town where they abducted two women and a man and also killed a man who refused to yield to their abduction.

“Unfortunately, the man’s refusal to go with the assailants cost him his life as he was mercilessly butchered for daring to defy the abductors,” Leadership reported.

Similarly, Sani Maikifi, a vigilante member within Kankara township narrowly escaped through the backyard while his wife and son were abducted by the gunmen.

Reports indicated that the attack was linked to threats previously made by the gunmen to Maikifi.
The state government or Katsina State Police Command are yet to confirm the attack.
