Tottenham’s Son Heung-min scored an amazing free-kick during extra time to help South Korea win against Australia 2-1 in the Asian Cup on Friday, February 2.

This victory means South Korea will now play against Jordan in the Asian Cup semi-finals on Tuesday, February 6.

South Korea had a tough game, coming from behind after Australia’s Craig Goodwin scored just before the first-half break. South Korea managed to tie the game in the last minutes, thanks to a 94th-minute penalty kick by Hwang Hee-chan.

This match marked the fourth time in five matches that South Korea, coached by Jurgen Klinsmann, managed to score a goal very late in the game in Qatar.

Son, who is a star player from Tottenham and captain of the South Korean team, hadn’t stood out much in the tournament until now. He showed his quality by first getting a penalty by being fouled and then scoring a beautiful goal from a free-kick.

Australia ended the game with only 10 players because Aiden O’Neill was sent off the field for a rough play.

This win meant a lot to Klinsmann, the coach, as he celebrated a lot after the win, especially since there had been some criticisms about how the team had been faring in the tournament so far.

South Korea is now aiming to win the quadrennial Asian Cup for the first time since 1960.
