The spokesman of the House of Representatives, Akin Rotimi burst into tears on Tuesday, January 30, while moving a motion on the killings of two traditional rulers in Ekiti State.

Rotimi, a lawmaker representing Ekiti North 1 (Ikole/Oye) federal constituency, revealed to the House of Representatives that the two monarchs who had been killed by unknown gunmen on Monday, January 29, were the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Olatunji Samuel Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsola.

The House spokesman said that armed bandits also killed a commercial driver that same day, between “Ayedun and Ayebode” towns. He added that “a school bus loaded with children was hijacked in Emure Ekiti and their whereabouts still remain unknown.”

Rotimi moved a motion of urgent national importance on the killings going on in Ekiti State. He highlighted the specific security issues his constituency suffers because of its topography and forests, which he said are made worse by the appalling condition of the federal roads in Ekiti.

The House of Representatives implored the Chief of Army Staff to redeploy military forces to the outpost near Oke-Ako in order to improve security and prevent a recurrence of the heinous actions. The lawmakers also called on other national security agencies to deploy more men to Ekiti North 1 and ensure that those who carried out the killings and kidnapping are apprehended and brought to book.
