Legal practitioners in Kenya, in a demonstration, took to the streets in the hearts of Nairobi to resist President Ruto’s threats to judges in a protest organized by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).

The protest, which started at the Supreme Court, has found its way to the President’s office, where it aimed to address concerns raised by the President’s recent statement.

The said statement was when the President publicly revealed his intention to disregard court orders, why he argues that some unnamed judges had allegedly colluded with opposition figures and “cartels” to disrupt his administration’s project.

LSK President Eric Theuri expressed the importance of the rule of law during a briefing on Thursday, stating, “The president of this country is not above the law. Therefore, we do not expect him to speak as if obeying court orders is a favour that he is doing to the country. It is a constitutional requirement.”

“If the President persists in attacking the Judiciary, the LSK would consider initiating impeachment proceedings against him for “violation of the constitution”, Eric stated.

Meanwhile, the LSK group had prepared a legal team to file a High Court petition on allegations that Mr Ruto is in violation of the constitution, as reported by Standard Newspaper.

Prominent figures in Kenya’s political space and the legal community, including strong opposition as former Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka and former Minister Eugene Wamalwa, joined the protest.
