The Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, on bail.

She was granted bail on Wednesday after hours of grilling at the agency’s office. Betta Edu is expected to show up daily at the EFCC office pending investigation.

President Bola Tinubu had suspended the minister from her office and directed the EFCC to launch an investigation into the transfer approval of public funds into private accounts. In response, the EFCC promptly summoned her to appear at its Abuja headquarters on Tuesday.

Earlier on Wednesday, West Africa Weekly reported that the suspended minister, Betta Edu, and her predecessor, Sadiya Umar-Farouk, had their passports confiscated to stop them from leaving the country while investigations into alleged fraud they were involved in continued.

Edu, among other fraud allegations involving her office, is under investigation for directing the Accountant General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein, to transfer N585 million to a private account owned by Oniyelu Bridget, who the ministry alleged currently serves as the Project Accountant, Grants for Vulnerable Groups.
