The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) holds a quarterly summit on Thursday at the Corps Headquarters in Abuja. In attendance, the Corps Commandant General Ahmed Audi expresses worries over the increase in illegal crude oil refineries in Nigeria.

Crude oil vandalism is a challenge to the oil sector, but illegal refineries cripple oil-generated revenue in the economy as more unlicensed establishment of illegal crude oil refineries increases. The CG stated at the event that despite the large number of illicit refineries taken out by Corps agents, it was concerning to see new illegal refineries being established.

However, the Corps CG Ahmed Audi pointed out that the Corps is on the stage of curbing suspects by destroying these adulterated crude oil refineries. Nonetheless, pipeline vandalism remains an everyday challenge to tackle in the oil sector as he cited the case of four suspects containing 3,850 litres of adulterated automotive gas oil apprehended in Imo state.

While ending his speech on raising awareness of multiple attacks averted attempts on schools in the country before the audience and stakeholders, he reiterated, tipping the public on the interception made by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad at Obah Agwa Autonomous Community of the state with suspects ranging from 25 – 35 years old.
