Following the planned protest that resulted in the leadership crisis in Ondo State, which was attributed to the illness of the current governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, raising concerns about the transfer of the governor’s office to his deputy, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, by Section 190 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution (as amended).

The requests made as planned protests by Sunshine State citizens appear to align with what is expected of them regarding the scheduled demonstration against the current Governor’s resignation or return to office.

The governor’s leave is anticipated to start on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, according to a letter certified by the State Speaker of the House of Assembly Olamide Oladiji on Wednesday. The State House of Assembly acknowledged receiving the letter. Nonetheless, he declared he would give the Clerk of the House instructions to forward his consent to the State Government Secretary.

Speaker Olamide Oladiji has stated that Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa will assume the governor’s responsibilities in an acting capacity immediately unless there is a public announcement to the contrary.

It is important to remember that active citizens’ demands, no matter how small, make a significant difference in maintaining Nigeria’s democracy.
