According to reports, Police in Nairobi arrested and assaulted paramedics during live coverage on CNN. The paramedics, who had identified themselves, were apprehended amidst ongoing protests against the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

Young protesters in Kenya have breached the tight security in the parliament and have taken over the building. This is despite coordinated arrests of leading voices and heavy gunshots by state-sponsored police.

Videos on social media show that the protesters have ransacked the senate building and other offices in the parliament.

The nationwide protest, which started last Tuesday, is against proposed tax increases in the Finance Bill 2024 recently passed by the parliament.

West Africa Weekly reported the coordinated arrest of activists and social media influencers by state-sponsored policemen, but the youths are undeterred.

A video on X showed protesters parading the coat of arms of a State House of Assembly on the streets, while another video showed a large crowd occupying the parliament building.

Hashtags such as #OccupyParliament and #NotoFinancebill2024, among others, are trending on X.
