The Yobe State Government has reported 132 cases of cholera as of September 25, with 9 deaths.

Dr. Mohammed Gana, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, shared this information in a statement on Friday in Damaturu.

He said the cases were recorded in the Gubja, Fune, Machina, Nangere, and Nguru Local Government Areas.

According to Gana, at least 112 patients have been treated and discharged, while nine others, about 6.8 per cent, died due to delays in receiving medical care.

He added that the cholera cases were confirmed after samples from patients with Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD) were tested at the National Disease Control Centre (NDCC) and the University of Maiduguri.

There has been a major breakout of cholera disease in Nigeria, with Lagos taking the most hit in several deaths and cases.

Recently, Adamawa’s state’s Commissioner for Health, Chief Felix Tangwami, reported the death toll from the recent cholera outbreak has reached 12, with 304 individuals currently hospitalised.
