World Cup 2026: 48 Teams, 12 Groups, and 104 Matches Across North America

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will have 48 teams, 104 matches, and run for 39 days from June 11 to July 19, 2026. Host nations are Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The opening match is Mexico vs South Africa on June 11 at Mexico City Stadium (3pm local time / 21:00 GMT). The final is July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which FIFA has renamed New York New Jersey Stadium for the tournament. All stadiums have been temporarily renamed to match their host cities to restrict ambush marketing. For example, SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles will be called Los Angeles Stadium.

There are 12 groups of four teams each.

Group A: Mexico, South Africa, Korea Republic, Czechia.
Group B: Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar, Switzerland.
Group C: Brazil, Morocco, Haiti, Scotland.
Group D: United States, Paraguay, Australia, Turkiye.
Group E: Germany, Curacao, Ivory Coast, Ecuador.
Group F: Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, Tunisia.
Group G: Belgium, Egypt, Iran, New Zealand.
Group H: Spain, Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay.
Group I: France, Senegal, Iraq, Norway.
Group J: Argentina, Algeria, Austria, Jordan.
Group K: Portugal, DR Congo, Uzbekistan, Colombia.
Group L: England, Croatia, Ghana, Panama.

The knockout stage begins with a Round of 32, then Round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, bronze medal match, and final.

Key dates:
Group stage: June 11 to June 27.
Round of 32: June 28 to July 3.
Round of 16: July 4 to July 7.
Quarterfinals: July 9 to July 11.
Semifinals: July 14 and July 15.
Bronze medal match: July 18.
Final: July 19.

Canada (2 venues): BMO Field (Toronto), BC Place (Vancouver).
Mexico (3 venues): Estadio Azteca (Mexico City), Estadio Akron (Guadalajara), Estadio BBVA (Monterrey).
