World Bank steps up support for Mali’s education sector

557

The World Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to Mali’s education system, pledging stronger support to help improve access, quality, and governance across the sector.

The renewed cooperation focuses on strengthening the country’s education planning and management capacity, as well as supporting ongoing reforms aimed at modernising the system. Authorities say the partnership is intended to address long-standing structural challenges while responding to the pressures created by insecurity and economic hardship in parts of the country.

A key priority of the support is improving the quality of teaching and learning. This includes measures designed to upgrade school management, enhance teacher training, and ensure that education policies are implemented more effectively at both national and local levels.

The World Bank said the initiative is part of a broader effort to help Mali build its human capital, which is seen as critical to the country’s long-term development. By strengthening the education system, the partnership aims to give more children access to quality schooling and create better opportunities for the next generation.

Malian authorities have welcomed the support, noting that investment in education remains essential for stability, economic growth, and national recovery.
