U.S. Elections: Biden vs Trump CNN Debate to Hold June 27

415

United States President, Joe Biden, and former President, Donald Trump, have both accepted CNN’s invitation for their first debate on June 27.

The debate, which will take place in Atlanta, will be without an audience.

Biden confirmed his acceptance on social media, stating, “Anywhere, any time, any place.” Trump responded, calling Biden “the worst debater.”

“I am Ready and Willing to Debate Crooked Joe at the two proposed times in June and September,” Trump noted on social media.

CNN announced that a moderator for the debate will be chosen later.

Additionally, ABC will host a second debate on September 10, with a vice presidential debate proposed for July.

While both candidates have agreed to the debates, Biden seeks strict rules to minimise interruptions, while Trump has called for more than two debates and a larger venue for excitement’s sake.

Debates are significant moments in the U.S. campaign, drawing a large live television audience. They present risks for both candidates, with Biden’s team hoping to expose Trump’s vulnerabilities on certain issues like abortion, while Trump’s team sees an opportunity to highlight concerns about Biden’s age.

It’s noteworthy that the first debate will occur after the conclusion of the Group of Seven summit taking place in Italy on June 15, and Trump’s criminal trial in New York. These events will likely form part of the issues to be discussed in the debate.
