Trump Would Halt Ukraine Aid if reelected – Hungarian Prime Minister

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said that former United States President, Donald Trump, will cease financial and military support to Ukraine if he is reelected, potentially leading to an end to the ongoing war with Russia.

The prime minister said this on Sunday, March 11, while speaking to a state television. The prime minister had a meeting with Trump in Florida last Friday.

“He will not give a penny into the Ukraine-Russia war, and therefore, the war will end,” Orban said of the former U.S. President.

According to Orban, the absence of U.S. support would significantly impact the war, given that Ukraine relies on external aid to sustain its defence efforts.

“If the Americans do not give money and weapons, and also the Europeans, then this war will be over. And if the Americans do not give money, the Europeans are unable to finance this war on their own, and then the war will end, “Orban stated.

The Hungarian leader, who has been criticised for his close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin, suggested that ending the war would require peace talks and efforts to ensure a stable and secure Europe. Nevertheless, the prime minister stressed that achieving peace was the immediate goal and that Trump “has the means for that.”

Trump’s campaign has yet to directly address Orban’s comments regarding Ukraine but has instead highlighted their discussions on issues of mutual national interest, including border security.

European leaders, already wary about a potential second Trump presidency, fear such a move could weaken U.S. support for Ukraine and the NATO alliance.
