Speed Darlington Granted Bail After a Month in Detention

1k

Popular rapper, Darlington Achakpo, widely known as Speed Darlington, has been granted bail after spending nearly a month in police custody. His lawyer, Stanley Alieke, announced the development on his Instagram account on Monday.

“Apki has been granted bail by the court,” Alieke wrote, though he did not provide additional details about the terms of the bail.

Speed Darlington was arrested on November 27 2024 while performing at a show in Owerri, Imo State. The arrest was connected to allegations of abuse directed at Grammy-winning Afro-fusion star, Burna Boy.

Deji Adeyanju, another member of Darlington’s legal team, confirmed that Burna Boy was behind the rapper’s arrest.

The conflict stems from Darlington’s public criticism of Burna Boy over his ties to embattled American rapper and producer Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. Diddy is currently facing multiple allegations, including sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

Despite the legal trouble, Darlington had vowed to continue calling out Burna Boy for his association with Diddy.

Darlington’s lawyer, Adeyanju, had revealed that the rapper was either to be arraigned within 48 hours or released on bail.

Our FREP application for Speed Darlington has been granted by the court. He is to be arraigned within 48 hours or released. Issues around injustice may take time, but justice will always prevail,” Adeyanju wrote.
