Seyi Vibez Parts Ways With Record Label Dapper Music Amid Controversy

1.3k

Nigerian artist Seyi Vibez has severed ties with his record label, Dapper Music, following a string of events culminating in both parties unfollowing each other on social media.

The split, apparent after Seyi Vibez updated his social media bio to “Independent” and deleted his posts, fueled speculation about a possible falling-out with Dapper Music. This marks the start of his independent music journey, as confirmed by his recent social media activities.

The breakup follows a wave of backlash from fans in Toronto after the singer abruptly cancelled his Canadian tour without notice. The tour’s organisers cited “circumstances beyond their control,” but the incident drew criticism and may have contributed to the rift.

Seyi Vibez rose to fame under Dapper Music’s management in 2022, delivering hits like “Chance,” and recently celebrated major milestones, including winning the Best Street Hop category at the 2023 Headies Awards. Despite their success together, this split has left fans speculating about the future of the artist and the label.

The musician launched his label, Vibez INC, earlier this year, signalling his intention to continue building his career independently. He has released six solo projects since November 2022, including his latest EP, Loseyi Professor, cementing his place as one of Nigeria’s top streaming artists.
