Real Madrid C. F. has confirmed its participation in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which will take place during the 2024/2025 season, dispelling recent rumours about potential withdrawal.
The club issued an official statement clarifying their commitment to the competition and expressing their excitement about the opportunity to compete on a global stage again.
The statement came in response to earlier reports that head coach Carlo Ancelotti had suggested the club might decline the invitation to the tournament.
Speaking to the newspaper Il Giornale, Ancelotti was quoted as expressing concerns about financial and scheduling issues, saying, “Real Madrid will NOT go to the FIFA Club World Cup. We will reject the invitation like other clubs.”
However, Ancelotti has since clarified his remarks, stating they were misinterpreted. “In my interview with Il Giornale, my words about the FIFA Club World Cup have not been interpreted in the way I intended,” Ancelotti explained.
“Nothing could be further from my interest than rejecting the possibility of playing a tournament that I think can be a great opportunity to continue fighting for great titles with Real Madrid.”
Real Madrid’s official statement reaffirmed the club’s unwavering commitment to the competition.
“At no time has there been any question regarding our participation in the new Club World Cup to be organised by FIFA in the coming 2024/2025 season. Our club will, therefore, take part, as planned, in this official competition, and we are proud and excited to be involved. We will once again inspire our millions of fans all over the world with another trophy.”
