In a move set to reposition Northern Nigeria as a formidable hub for cinematic excellence, celebrated actress and filmmaker Rahama Sadau has launched the Arewa International Film Festival (AIFF) alongside a capacity-building initiative, the Arewa Creative Workshop and Master Class (ACWM).

Sadau announced on her official Instagram page on the 25th of May, 2025. According to Sadau, it is a groundbreaking event to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Northern Nigeria. It is expected to uplift and export the diverse stories, artistry, and traditions rooted in the Arewa (Hausa-speaking North) communities.

This festival is more than just a showcase of talent. It is a platform designed to foster creativity, drive industry growth, create job opportunities, boost tourism, and place Arewa storytelling on the global stage, Sadau stated in her announcement.

Sadau is a multifaceted Nigerian actress, filmmaker, and entrepreneur whose career spans Kannywood (the Hausa-language film industry) and Nollywood. Sadau has carved out a unique space as one of the few Northern Nigerian women to gain national and international acclaim in film.

Her breakout in the Hausa film Gani Ga Wane catapulted her into the limelight, and she went on to star in acclaimed productions such as Up North, The Plan, Chief Daddy 1 & 2, Ajuwaya and more. Beyond acting, Sadau is the founder of Sadau Pictures.

The official date and location for the Arewa International Film Festival is yet to be announced.
