The Plateau State Government has lifted the curfew imposed on the Jos-bukuru metropolis due to improved security.

Recall that Governor Caleb Mutfwang had declared a 24-hour curfew in Jos and Bukuru metropolis on Sunday, August 5, amid nationwide protests against economic hardship. He cited security reasons, stating that the decision was taken after “reviewing the actions of unscrupulous individuals who exploited the nationwide protest to unleash terror on innocent citizens.”

He also noted that these criminal elements, armed with daggers, machetes, and other dangerous weapons, broke into shops and restaurants along Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction in Jos North Local Government Areas, looting foodstuffs and other valuable items.

However, in a statement by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere on Thursday, Muftwang said the move to lift the curfew came after thorough consultations with security agencies.

According to him, lifting the curfew will allow citizens to resume their economic and lawful activities while maintaining public order.

He thanked the citizens for their patriotism and cooperation during the period and assured them of his commitment to their well-being. He also called for continued collaboration between residents and security agencies in ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
