A secondary school building has collapsed in the Busa-Buji area of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, trapping many students under the rubble.
The two-story building of Saints Academy reportedly collapsed on Friday morning around 8:30 am, when many students and teachers were already in their classrooms.
The collapse has shocked the community, prompting parents of the students and community members to flock to the site in search of their loved ones.
Injuries have been confirmed, and there are rumours of fatalities as security personnel and emergency workers try to rescue survivors from the rubble.
In May 2024, the Nigerian Institute of Civil Engineers (NICE) disclosed that Nigeria recorded 41 building collapses in 17 months, meaning that Nigeria recorded more than two building collapses monthly.
The Saint Academy building collapse is yet another addition to the alarming trend of incessant building collapses going on in Nigeria that has led to the loss of lives and properties.
