Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, visited the Immaculate Heart Specialist Hospital in Nkpor, Anambra State, yesterday.

In a post on his official X page, he noted that driven by his commitment to the real development of the nation, we must emphasize the importance of measuring progress using the Human Development Index (HDI).

During his visit to the critical health facility managed by the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters congregation, Obi demonstrated his commitment by presenting a substantial donation.

Obi noted that a generous contribution of $50,000 came from Prof Philip Ozuah, a dedicated friend and brother known for his commitment to societal betterment.

Additionally, Obi contributed N15 million, underlining his dedication to the health facility.

Addressing the gathering, Obi stressed the need for increased investment in the health sector, particularly at the primary healthcare level, as a pivotal factor in national development.

He echoed the well-known adage that a healthy nation is wealthy, urging governments at all levels to prioritize healthcare investments.

“I am glad to witness the consistent improvement in healthcare delivery at Immaculate Heart Specialist Hospital. My support over the years is a testament to my commitment to their noble cause,” stated Obi.

He also expressed gratitude to the hospital’s Proprietor and Management for their unwavering dedication to enhancing healthcare services.

Highlighting the growth and progress of the healthcare facility, Obi urged other well-meaning Nigerians and donor agencies to follow suit in supporting the health and education sectors.  He emphasised their pivotal roles in poverty alleviation and outlined their critical contribution to Nigeria’s journey towards a new and prosperous future.
