A faction of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, over disloyalty and anti-party activities.

Debo Ologunagba, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, announced the suspension in a statement on Friday.

This development comes shortly after a faction of the NWC aligned with Damagum suspended the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, and the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, for disloyalty to the party.

According to the statement, the NWC decided to suspend Damagum and Anyanwu after reviewing complaints regarding their actions, particularly concerning a letter they addressed to the Court of Appeal.

The letter challenged the party’s stance in a case involving 27 former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who left the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC). The NWC viewed this move as a serious breach of the party’s constitution and oath of office.

The NWC, in line with the provisions of the PDP Constitution, has referred Damagum and Anyanwu to the National Disciplinary Committee for further investigation.

In the meantime, the two officials are suspended from all meetings, activities and programmes of the NWC pending the conclusion of the investigation by the National Disciplinary Committee, the statement said.

This development adds to the internal turmoil within the PDP, as different factions within the party continue to clash over leadership and loyalty issues.
