Twenty-nine persons believed to be associated with the Yoruba Nation movement were arraigned on Wednesday at the Chief Magistrates Court in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The charges stemmed from their alleged participation in the failed invasion of the Governor’s Office and the State House of Assembly premises.

The case, designated with charge number Mi/520c/2024, pits the Commissioner of Police against the 29 suspects, whose identities were not disclosed.

The charges brought against them include counts of treasonable felony, unlawful society membership, illegal possession of firearms, and actions deemed likely to incite a breach of peace.

The events leading to the legal action unfolded on Saturday, April 13, 2024, when a group of masked individuals, suspected to be aligned with the Yoruba Nation agitation, reportedly infiltrated the state secretariat located in Agodi, Ibadan.

Their apparent aim was to raise the flag, symbolising their cause, but they were swiftly intercepted and neutralised by joint security personnel.

The Investigative Police Officer, Inspector Bakare Rasaq, from the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku, Ibadan, presented the case against the defendants.

According to Rasaq, the alleged offences violate Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol: II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
