WAEC WASSCE 2024 Results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially announced the release of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, with 38.32 per cent, less than half of the candidates who sat for the exams obtaining credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including Mathematics and English Language.

In a statement issued on Monday, August 4, 2025, via its official handle on X, the examination body confirmed that candidates who participated in the examination can now check their results online.

The West African Examinations Council is pleased to inform candidates who sat WASSCE for School Candidates, 2025 that the result has officially been released today, Monday, August 4, 2025, the statement read.

WAEC urged candidates to log on to the Council’s official result portal at http://waecdirect.org to access their results. The Council also advised candidates to ensure they have their examination details handy, including their examination number and result checker PIN, for a seamless result-checking experience.

Further details regarding the overall performance statistics and breakdown by subject and region are expected to be released by WAEC in the coming days.

The decline in this year’s pass rate can be attributed to the drop in the quality of the Nigerian education system, as well as the fact that several students across multiple states were forced to write their English Language examination late into the night. Many of the candidates relied on candlelight and phone torches due to delays in the arrival of examination materials, power outages and poor lighting conditions.

With only 754,545 out of the 1,969,313 candidates who sat for the 2025 WASSCE obtaining credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, this serves as a call for a total overhaul of the country’s education system to upgrade to global standards.
