Omoni Oboli’s “The Uprising: Wives On Strike” Dominates Box Office With N28.2 Million Opening Weekend

Nollywood filmmaker Omoni Oboli’s latest release, The Uprising: Wives on Strike, has claimed the top spot at the Nigerian box office, earning N28.2 million in its opening weekend.

The film, which debuted last week, quickly became the highest-grossing movie of the period. These earnings reflect its first three days in theatres, excluding an additional N10 million generated from pre-release voucher sales, which Oboli announced via her Instagram before the film’s debut.

The Uprising is the third instalment in the Wives on Strike franchise, continuing the narrative of a group of women who once bonded together to fight domestic violence. Wives on Strike (2016) and its sequel, Wives on Strike: The Revolution in 2017. This latest chapter focuses on a mother’s dangerous quest to rescue her kidnapped son, leading her into a peril-filled world.

Directed by Oboli and co-produced with Tomi Adeoye, the film features a star-studded cast, including Uche Jombo, Ufuoma McDermott, Chioma Akpotha, and Hilda Dokubo, alongside Segun Arinze, Julius Agwu, and Kalu Ikeagwu. The movie marks Oboli’s return to the cinema after a five-year break, celebrating a decade since her directorial debut.
