In an impressive feat, Olamide’s EP “Ikigai” set a record for the most opening week streams by a project on Spotify Nigeria in 2024. According to TurnTable Charts, “Ikigai” garnered 7.92 million streams in its first week, surpassing Shallipopi’s “Shakespopi,” totalling 5.7 million streams. Released on June 27, 2024, the surprise EP has enjoyed a warm reception from listeners, reaffirming Olamide’s status as the most streamed African rapper on Spotify. He also holds the record for the most streamed album by a Nigerian rapper with his 2020 project “Carpe Diem.”

On “Ikigai,” Olamide collaborates with YBNL stars Fireboy and Asake on the track “Uptown Disco.” He also reunites with former YBNL associates Pheelz, Young Jonn, and Lil Kesh for the track “Synchro System.” This project marks Olamide’s 10th solo and 15th overall project, further solidifying his extensive discography in Nigerian mainstream music since 1999.

“Ikigai” also marks Olamide’s biggest opening week on Spotify Nigeria, surpassing the 5.8 million streams of his 2023 album “Unruly.” It ranks as the fourth biggest streaming week for a project on Spotify Nigeria, behind Davido’s “Timeless” (14.4M), Burna Boy’s “I Told Them” (9.4M), and Asake’s “Work of Art” (8.3M).
