The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has forecasted haziness and cloudiness nationwide from Monday to Wednesday. The agency urged Individuals with respiratory conditions to take precautions and wear masks.
According to NiMet’s weather outlook released in Abuja on Sunday, moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility ranging from 2km to 5km is expected across northern and north-central states.
Exceptions include Benue, Kogi, and Kwara, where patches of cloud amidst haziness are anticipated. Additionally, patches of clouds are forecasted over inland South areas throughout the period, with chances of isolated thunderstorms in Edo, Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa states during afternoons and evenings.
On Tuesday, the agency also predicted moderate dust haze with similar visibility over northern and north-central regions. However, Kwara, Benue, and Kogi would maintain their weather conditions.
In the South, patches of clouds were forecasted in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms later in the day in Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Osun, Edo, Imo, Enugu, Lagos, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa states.
Wednesday’s forecast includes slight dust haze in the north, with patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere over the north-central region, except for parts of Plateau, Kwara, Benue, and Kogi states, where isolated thunderstorms are expected later.
Patches of clouds are anticipated over inland South and coastal areas in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms later in the day in Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Edo, Oyo, Ondo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Delta states.
Advising those with respiratory issues to wear face masks, NiMET also recommended warm clothing for children and older people at night.
Additionally, it suggested moisturising skin, eyes, and lips frequently. It also advised airline operators to obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet for effective planning.
