Dr Fola David, a Nigerian doctor and hyper-realism artist, has set a new Guinness World Record for the largest drawing by an individual. This record-breaking effort took place at Onikan Stadium in Lagos, where David aimed to create a 1,000-square-meter artwork showcasing Nigeria’s diverse cultures.

Beginning his ambitious project on July 16, David’s goal was to exceed the previous record of 629.98 square metres, set by Ravi Sony of India. By July 19 at 9 PM, David had not only surpassed this mark but set a new record, completing 689 square metres of drawing in just four days.

In a celebratory post on social media, David wrote, “Congratulations to us all. On Day 4 at 9 PM, we broke the current record of 629.98 square metres, but we are not done! As the goal is to get over 1,000 square metres of canvas covered in drawings; we are currently at 689 square metres. Let’s go!”

The event attracted notable visitors, including 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci, and businessman Farooq Oreagba, who gained fame at the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival. Additionally, the management of the College of Medicine University of Lagos (CMUL), where David is an alumnus, came to show their support.

Titled ‘Unity in Diversity’, the event showed the power of art to bridge cultural divides and foster community. Attendees enjoyed performances by the National Troupe of Nigeria and other presentations while witnessing David’s dedication and talent in real-time.

David’s accomplishment not only highlights his artistic skills but also emphasises the cultural richness and unity of Nigeria through his hyper-realistic art. His journey to achieving this record has been an inspiration, demonstrating the impact of perseverance and creativity.
