The Nigerian Box Office surpassed ₦10 billion in revenue in 2025, marking a significant rise in cinema earnings across the country. Data shows 1.84 million admissions, representing a 16% increase from the 1.59 million tickets sold during the same period in 2024.

The latest figures represent a 58% boost in revenue compared to the ₦6.4 billion grossed at this time last year, showcasing the appetite for theatrical releases among Nigerian moviegoers.

A couple of titles have helped boost these figures. Funke Akindele’s Everybody Loves Jenifa set the pace for the year, while Toyin Abraham’s comedy Alakada: Bad and Boujee crossed the ₦500 million mark earlier this year. Ori: The Rebirth earned over ₦419 million, Toyin Abraham’s historical drama Iyalode is now nearing ₦300 million, and Labake Olododo opened to over ₦50 million in its first weekend before powering past ₦400 million.

Industry analysts attribute the surge to a stronger slate of local and international releases. They note that Nollywood blockbusters and global titles have been key in drawing audiences back to theatres.

Speculation is already high that Funke Akindele’s upcoming December release, Behind The Scenes, will push the numbers even further. The filmmaker has built a December tradition of delivering record-breaking hits, and many observers believe her new film will be a major driver for box office revenue during the festive season.

The performance highlights the resilience of Nigeria’s film exhibition sector, which has increasingly become a vital part of the entertainment economy. Observers say the milestone positions 2025 as a potentially record-breaking year for the box office if the momentum continues through the peak December period.
