Nigeria Ranks Beside War-Torn Palestine on World 'Happiness Index' Report

Nigeria is left in stitches after ranking low on the World’ Happiness Index’ report for 2024, alongside war-torn Palestine.

The World Happiness Report is a partnership of Gallup, the Oxford Wellbeing Research Centre, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and the WHR’s Editorial Board.

Nigeria ranked 102nd, while Palestine ranked 103rd out of 143 countries in a global happiness index released on Wednesday. The index found that older age is associated with higher life satisfaction in the world’s most populous country.

Finland has emerged as the world’s happiest country, topping the World Happiness Report 2024 for the seventh consecutive year.

The report, in part, reads, “Countries ranking highest for the old are generally countries with high overall rankings, but include several where the young have recently fared very poorly.”

Also, “Norway, Sweden, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Spain are countries where the old are now significantly happier than the young, while Portugal and Greece show the reverse pattern,” it said.

However, Nigeria is plagued by insecurity, multidimensional poverty, an increasing number of out-of-school children, inflation, and food shortages as a result of a lack of governance and leadership, similar to the war-torn State of Palestine, which is suffering from a widely spread genocidal war perpetrated by the Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
