President Bola Tinubu has said Nigeria is a “very, very poor” country due to its low per capita income compared to other African nations.
Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, made these remarks during a recent appearance as a Special Guest on Arise TV’s Prime Time.
Addressing inquiries regarding Nigeria’s economic status and the government’s efforts to ensure stability, Onanuga stated, “Nigeria is a very, very poor country, to be honest.
I think our wealth is overestimated.” He emphasised a need for a more realistic assessment of the nation’s economic standing.
Moreover, Onanuga highlighted recent policy measures aimed at alleviating financial strains, including removing subsidies on petrol and unifying the exchange rate. He expressed hopes that these actions would ease the pressure on the country’s finances.
