An armed militia attack has left at least seven residents of  Agu-Amed Autonomous Community dead, with two persons still missing. The attack on the Eha-Amufu community of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State occurred on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at around 4:30 p.m..

According to reports, the attackers arrived in helicopters that hovered above the community during the raid. Victims were reportedly slaughtered with machetes before any gunfire was heard, adding a terrifying element of stealth and savagery to the assault.

Osita Ogenyi, a resident of the community who spoke with Punch, confirmed the details of the invasion.

“Currently, there’s uncertainty in my community. Armed Fulani herders invaded the Agu-Amed Autonomous Community on Sunday evening. They killed seven people; we have recovered their bodies in a savage manner, and two are still missing,” he said.

The victims were identified from different areas within the community. In Ohalu Mgbede, two individuals were killed, including a young man identified as Dennis Ovu. In Iyi Asa, the victims include Joe Aguigbo, Simon Nshi, and another youth. A 32-year-old man was also reportedly killed during the attack.

“We have searched the entire bush area for the two missing persons, but there’s still no trace of them,” Ogenyi added.

The incident has once again sparked fear and outrage among residents and community leaders, who have long complained about a lack of adequate security in the area. The latest attack comes just three months after women from seven autonomous communities in Eha-Amufu protested a series of persistent attacks by suspected Fulani militia.

From 2021 to March 2025, no fewer than 152 residents have reportedly been killed in similar invasions in the region. With the latest deaths, the total has now risen to 163, according to local sources.
