The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has announced the recall of a specific batch of Nivea BLACK & WHITE Invisible Roll-On deodorant due to health risks.
The recall was initiated following safety alerts from the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products (Rapex).
The affected product is a 50ml Nivea BLACK & WHITE Invisible Roll-On deodorant marked for “48H Protection in African Climate” with batch number 93529610, manufactured in Germany.
According to NAFDAC, the deodorant contains a chemical, 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde (BMHCA), which is banned in cosmetics due to potentially harmful effects on the reproductive system and risks to unborn children.
The agency also noted the chemical’s potential to cause skin irritation and burns.
NAFDAC has advised importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to avoid the importation, sale, and use of this product batch and to remain vigilant within the supply chain.
Recall that the agency recently recalled the Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap (100g), batch number 81832M 08, also made in Germany, due to a harmful chemical.
It reported the soap contains Butylphenyl Methylpropional (also known as Lilial), which is banned in cosmetic products because it poses risks to the reproductive system and can harm unborn children. The chemical can also cause skin allergies.
