NAFDAC, Army Take Down Illegal Alcohol Factory in Badagry

In a joint operation between the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Nigerian Army’s 15 Field Engineering Regiment, an illegal alcohol manufacturing facility in Badagry has been destroyed.

In a statement posted on X, the operation conducted led to the arrest of Mr. Chinedu Okafor, the alleged mastermind behind the illicit production, whose operations were based at his residence at No. 24, MTN Road, Badagry.

The suspicious activities of Mr Okafor had drawn the attention of the Nigerian Army, prompting their intervention and subsequent handover of the suspect to NAFDAC officers at the Ports Inspection Directorate, Seme Border.

Upon thorough inspection, NAFDAC officials evacuated all equipment and materials utilized in the production of the illegal beverages, effectively halting the unlawful operation.

Investigations into Mr. Okafor’s activities revealed his prolonged engagement in this criminal enterprise, which posed a significant threat to the integrity of regulated alcohol products within the Badagry region.

NAFDAC noted the importance of public vigilance in combating such illicit practices and urged citizens to promptly report any suspicious activities to safeguard public health.

Mr. Okafor is slated to face prosecution for his involvement in the illegal manufacturing operation, and all contraband products seized will be destroyed.

The estimated value of the confiscated items surpasses fifty million naira (₦50,000,000).
