Morocco has started sending 40 tons of medical aid to Palestinians in Gaza, the Moroccan foreign ministry announced on Monday.

According to the ministry, the aid includes surgical equipment, supplies for treating burns and fractures, and medications for children in Gaza. The aid was airlifted and will be transferred to Palestinian Red Crescent trucks at the Kerem Shalom border crossing.

This is the second time Morocco has used this crossing to deliver aid, following a similar effort in March, according to a senior diplomatic source cited by Reuters.

Moroccan authorities said they are leveraging their relationship with Israel to advocate for peace and support Palestinian rights. However, these actions have sparked protests in Moroccan cities amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Israeli military operations in Gaza began after Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7. Israeli sources reported that approximately 1,200 deaths and over 250 hostages were taken during the conflict. On the other hand, Palestinian health authorities have reported over 37,600 casualties from Israeli retaliatory strikes, resulting in extensive damage to infrastructure in Gaza.
