The Kano State Police Command announced on Monday that it has arrested 873 suspects for various criminal offences. Commissioner of Police Salman Garba revealed this while presenting the suspects at the Bompai police headquarters.

Among those arrested, 600 were involved in riots, and 76 were detained for displaying Russian flags during the August 1st nationwide protests in the state.

“Additionally, 150 suspects were prosecuted for violating the curfew imposed by the Kano State Government, and six individuals linked to the destruction and looting of the Kano Printing Press (KPP) are under investigation.

“We also arrested seventy-six (76) suspects displaying Russian flags, including a foreigner, who were transferred to the Force Headquarters, Abuja for investigation on charges of sedition.

“Furthermore, forty-one (41) suspects were arrested for major crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and car theft. We recovered two AK-47 rifles and other significant properties looted by the hoodlums from various locations, including Audu Bako Secretariat, NCC Office, High Court Complexes, Kano Printing Press (KPP), and supermarkets,” he stated.

According to him, the Command remains resolute and steadfast in its duty to protect the lives and properties of all residents in Kano State.

While the Commissioner claimed that there were no casualties during the protests in the state, recall that West Africa Weekly reported that security officers sworn to protect and safeguard the lives of Nigerian citizens tear-gassed, shot, attacked, and brutalised peaceful, unarmed protesters at Kurna, Kano state, reportedly leading to the death 15 people, while 47 got severe injuries.
