Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has directed the immediate removal of all administrative bottlenecks delaying the implementation of approved allowances for National Youth Service Corps members serving in the state.
The governor gave the directive on Tuesday while receiving the new NYSC State Coordinator, Yunusa Tanimu, at his office in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area. Mr Otti expressed surprise that the extra allowance he had approved had not been implemented and ordered that whatever issues were causing the delay be resolved immediately.
“The last time, I was told it’s about BVN, and I’m sure I tried to solve it. So, if there is any other problem, please, can you get the Head of Service to solve it?” the governor said.
Mr Otti reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of corps members, acknowledging their contributions to education, healthcare and other critical sectors of the state’s development.
Earlier, Mr Tanimu appealed for the full implementation of the approved allowance for corps members. He also requested the government’s intervention in renovating corps members’ hostels and the multipurpose hall at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umunna, as well as constructing internal roads at the camp. He further appealed for the installation of solar-powered streetlights at the camp and the augmentation of orientation camp logistics.
