Jigawa State Government has earmarked a sum of N2.8 billion for a special feeding program. This was announced by Sagir Musa, the Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports, and Culture, in a statement released on Thursday in Dutse.

Musa revealed that the decision to allocate funds for the program was reached during the executive council meeting held on Wednesday, March 13.

He emphasised that the primary objective of the program is to mitigate the hardships exacerbated by the current surge in food prices across Nigeria.

Highlighting the scope of the initiative, the information commissioner disclosed that the government has approved the establishment of 609 feeding centers across the state.

Each of the 287 wards in Jigawa will have a minimum of two designated feeding centers.

With the cost of food items on the rise, particularly during Ramadan, the provision for free meals will offer much-needed relief to those facing economic challenges, the government noted.
