Insecurity: Death Toll Rises From Female Suicide Bombing In Borno
Boko Haram

The death toll of the bomb that went off yesterday in Gwoza, Borno State, has increased to 18, leaving 42 others “seriously injured.”

The explosion was reportedly carried out by a female suicide bomber suspected to be a member of the terrorist group Boko Haram.

This was disclosed by the Director-General of Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Barkindo Saidu, who, in a situation report, told Nigeria’s legacy media, News Agency of Nigeria, that the 18 people were adult males, females and children.
He earlier confirmed that the first blast took place at a wedding ceremony held at Tashan Mararaba, near the Fire Service in Gwoza town, while the second, in a coordinated attack, occurred at a funeral service by another female suicide bomber who disguised as a mourner and rushed into the crowd and detonated the bomb.

“The 19 people seriously injured were conveyed to Maiduguri in four ambulances, while 23 others are waiting for military escort in the Medical Regimental Services (MRS) Clinic.

“I am now coordinating for a chopper tonight. I have mobilised emergency drugs to complement the shortage of medicines in Gwoza. The degree of injuries ranges from abdominal raptures to skull and limb fractures.

“I have also received a report that there is a suspected suicide bomber in Pulka,” Mr Saidu said.
