Ijaw Youths Wike’s Arrest

Ijaw youths under the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) have supported Chief Edwin Clark’s call to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to arrest the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nyesom Wike, over his threat to put fire in states controlled by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if they interfere in Rivers State politics.

In a statement on Sunday, IYC Spokesman Amb. Binebai Princewill said the call for Wike’s arrest has become imperative due to his reckless comments, which they believe could destabilise the country.

Princewill criticised the security agencies for not acting against Wike’s provocations, suggesting that their inaction reflects poorly on their ability to maintain order.

He argued that Nigeria should not be a place where people act as if they are above the law. He called on the federal government, under President Bola Tinubu, to act decisively to prevent chaos and unrest.

The remark is so undemocratic and calls for great concern by reasonable, patriotic and responsible Nigerians. Government anywhere in the World loses legitimacy when it becomes docile on issues that matter concerning its citizens, if it is people like Wike that are the main characters in the Tinubu Government, it shows that there is no hope for a better Nigeria, he said.
