Bola Tinubu University Bill

Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has criticised the House of Representatives over the proposed bill to establish Bola Tinubu University, pointing out Tinubu’s educational background, which is controversial. Effiong described the proposal as a flattery, which he said is a problem in the country.

West Africa Weekly earlier reported that despite existing Nigerian universities being sorely underfunded, members of the House of Representatives proposed a bill seeking to establish a university in the name of President Bola Tinubu to teach Nigerian Languages already being taught in the existing institutions.

Reacting to this move, Effiong, in a post on his X handle on Saturday, suggested that Tinubu has not done enough to revamp Nigeria’s educational system.

His words:

Some members of the House of Representatives have introduced a Bill to establish a Bola Tinubu University—the same Bola Tinubu whose educational background is shrouded in controversy.

What has Tinubu done to revamp Nigeria’s educational system? Sycophancy is a problem in this country.

Effiong’s criticism is one of many that the proposed bill has received since it was made public.
