Peter Obi Calls for Urgent Actions to Save Nigeria's Growth

Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has again issued a sincere call for immediate and decisive action to curb the alarming trend of violence and terror attacks gripping the nation.

Expressing concern over recent incidents in Zamfara, Kaduna, and Katsina states, Obi underscored the urgent need for proactive measures to safeguard the lives and property of Nigerians.

In a statement posted on X, Obi commended the discussions surrounding the implementation of State Policing, acknowledging it as a welcome development.

However, he emphasised that efforts to address insecurity cannot afford to wait for the fruition of such plans, urging a proactive approach to tackling the current wave of violence.

Obi stated, “While the idea of State Policing, as discussed recently by the President and the 36 States Governors, is a welcome development, and while looking forward to its implementation, which may still take a while, all efforts, at the moment, should be geared towards ending the ugly trend of insecurity in the nation.”

Obi highlighted the recent attacks on a mosque in Katsina, where worshippers were killed and villagers abducted, as well as the assault on a police station in Zamfara, resulting in the loss of the Divisional Crime Officer.

He lamented the devastating impact of insecurity on communities nationwide and stressed the need for swift action to restore peace and stability.

Obi continued, “Such a high level of insecurity, when combined with the high level of hunger and poverty in the country, forms a perfect recipe for disaster in our nation. We must, therefore, take all possible measures to ensure the security of lives and property in our dear nation.”

He extended his condolences to the families affected by the violent attacks. He expressed solidarity with those in captivity, urging the government and security agencies to prioritise the safety and well-being of all Nigerians.
